MANCHESTER, NH – Mayor Joyce Craig has proclaimed Thursday, October 24, 2019 as World Polio Day in Manchester. On this day Manchester Rotary Club and Rotary clubs around the world join in supporting efforts to eradicate this crippling and potentially deadly infectious disease.  Rotary has been working on this effort for more than 30 years, and incredible progress has been made in the fight to rid the world of polio forever. As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, Rotary has helped to reduced polio cases by more than 99.9 percent.

It’s crucial to eliminate polio from the last three countries where it remains endemic and to keep other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year. Funds are still needed to continue immunization and surveillance efforts. No child should have to suffer from this vaccine-preventable disease. Help us make an impact on World Polio Day. Your gift will get us closer to the finish line!
